What to Look for in a Residential Asphalt Paving Contractor

Your parking lot or driveway is in disrepair with pot holes everywhere but you have no idea who to turn to for your asphalt maintenance. You know you need to get it fixed but where to even start looking?

Keeping the educated buyer in mind, here are a few things you can do to help you with your homework while choosing someone for your commercial or residential asphalt paving needs.

Ask a lot of questions: You want to know about their level of expertise as well as past jobs the company has done. Ask them about the size and scope of projects they have worked on. Are they a residential asphalt paving company trying to jump in over their head and repair your large parking lot or have they done jobs like this before? You want to be sure that the person you end up hiring is not going to leave you in worst shape than when they started or worst yet, leave you looking for someone to repair or finish the job.

Do your research: Get online and do some research on asphalt contractors in your area. Google and Angie's List are a couple of great places to start. You can find out a lot about a business by searching them online. You want to look for positive reviews. Stay away from companies that have negative feedback. You are looking for a company that is going to be engaged and open with you as a buyer. Be sure to check their website and find out everything you can about the company.

Get multiple quotes: Getting your commercial parking lot resurfaced is a big expense. It is not something you should decide to do without a little bit of research. Assuming you have done your research, be sure to get quotes from at least 3 different companies. You want to be selective here though. Remember the lowest quote is not always the best option.

Ask for references and referrals: Has anyone you know ever used them in the past? Maybe a neighbor or another business owner you know has recently done some of this leg work for you. Don't be scared to ask around and find out if anyone you know has used a good residential asphalt paving company. At the very least, you should ask the company for a few examples of happy clients that can recommend their services.

Most importantly, just talk to the person who will be doing the work. There is no replacement for good old fashioned face-to-face communication. If the company is reputable they will have no problem looking you in the eye and answering all of your questions.
