Grading Foreman

Essential Functions:

  • Meet with the Project Manager on a daily basis to review the scheduled projects
  • Distribute and discuss the schedule and the equipment needed for the day with the grading crew
  • Confirm with the materials quarry operator about the scheduled loading times, type of material and tonnage totals
  • Upon arrival at the job, set up men working signs. Keep the jobsite safe.
  • Conduct weekly Team/Safety meeting with crew and hold crew members accountable to safety procedures
  • Review the job work order to confirm job specifications (depth of base material, asphalt and perimeters of asphalt paving, is base material by the ton or lump sum, is inspection or density tests required)
  • Check for any drainage issues and communicate them to project manager.
  • Communicate with the owner, inspectors or engineers prior to and during the project.
  • Discuss the prep/grading procedure with the crew prior to starting the job (Walk & Talk)
  • Document base issues (soft spots mark out the areas on the plan.) Discuss any problems immediately with the Project Manager, Owner / Inspectors on site.
  • Keep track of the material tickets and yield as the job progresses.
  • Check drainage continuously. Notify Project Manager of issues (less than 1%). Paint out swales as well as any drainage issues.
  • Perform proof roll and document any issues with stability of base or subgrade with Project Manager
  • If density tests are required, ensure density requirements are being met to ensure compaction.
  • Communicate with the materials quarry during the grading/prep process as to the tons required to complete the project.
  • Verify the tons required- Will the job take more or less material then listed on the schedule?
  • Trucking; Check with Project Manager and other foremen if the trucks that you are cutting off will be needed on other job sites in the company or are they done for the day. Sign out all trucks when they leave your job site. Gather material tickets from the trucks.
  • Responsible for disciplining or dismissing crew members after consulting with Human Resources
  • Write up employees for both negative and positive actions performed during the day to day duties
  • Ensure quality workmanship.
  • Monitor maintenance of equipment
  • Monitor and document crew members’ time.
  • Communicate with project managers and paving foreman about any issues that developed on the jobsite.
  • Review hard dollar sheet to assure jobs is completed on time


When the project is completed:

  • Walk over the job for a last look at any problems that need to be addressed, recheck drainage, and paint out the site for paving before the crew moves out.
  • Clean up all litter and debris that your crew has created.  Sweep up dust, dirt, gravel on concrete and roads and gather up all hand tools (including curb lines).
  • Contact the project manager; let him know that you have completed the project and are moving to the next job or that you are done for the day.
  • Organize all weight slips, per street or job.  Give copies of the weight slips to the job inspector and agree on the total tons used.
  • Tape off or barricade the newly prepped area as suitable.
  • Pick up the men working signs.
  • Turn in the weight slip copies to the project managers along with the paper work for the job.
  • Note the total tons on your daily report. Break out tons of each type of material and tons per area on the site.
  • Fill out the daily grading report and the time cards using the phase numbers that are listed on the work order.
  • Review the next day’s schedule on your tablet.
  • Check emails once a day

Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications:

  • Must practice safety processes at all time and hold the crew accountable for following them
  • Wisconsin driver’s license and Class “A” CDL mandatory and or able to obtain one prior to employment
  • Good driving record
  • Capable of lifting 50 pounds or more
  • Good work ethic
  • The ability to read and understand the Grading and Milling Guidelines manual
  • Must be able to work long hours and weekends if needed
  • Minimum of 3 years of grading experience
  • Scheduled off season training classes are mandatory
  • Have a working knowledge of all grading equipment
  • Experience in reading and understanding site plans (grades and measurements)
  • Experienced in laying out a project, operation of a laser level and setting grades
  • Self-motivated, with a high energy level and a good attitude toward co-workers
  • Have a high level of communicating and listening skills
  • The mechanical ability to make small repairs to equipment

Grader Operator

Essential Functions:

  • Having working knowledge of excavation equipment such as skid steer and mid size grader, compactor, and roller
  • Self motivated, with high energy level and positive attitude.
  • Must have expert or journeyman quality skills on skid steer and or mid-size grader.
  • Willing to learn how to operate a laser level to obtain proper drainage and slope.
  • Document any base issues or contact Foreman or Project Manager
  • Consult with grade foreman or Project Manager prior, during and after job to ensure proper excavated areas are addressed and completed.
  • Properly maintain your equipment daily (check oil, grease, check for leaks, etc.)
  • Hand work around edges and corners will be expected.
  • Assist in training Grade Tech I to help learn trade
  • Drive any type of truck with any trailer including low-boy
  • Crosstrain on paving crew when needed
  • General Clean up of jobsite

 Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications:

  • Must practice safety procedures at all times
  • Wisconsin driver’s license and class A CDL mandatory or able to obtain one from date of hire
  • Receive a Tanker Endorsement
  • Good driving record for the past 3 years per NDR
  • Capable of lifting 50 pounds or more.
  • The ability to read and understand blue prints.
  • Must be able to work long hours and weekends as needed.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience.

Diesel Mechanic

Position Summary:
This position works closely with fellow mechanics, shop supervisor, truck drivers, crew foremen and loader operators.
 
Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Repair of construction vehicles and equipment along with providing preventative maintenance.
  • Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
  • Maintains vehicle records by annotating services and repairs
  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
  • May be required to travel to the jobsite for repairs or troubleshoot equipment
  • All other duties assigned

Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications:

  • Basic computer skills
  • Strong preventative maintenance background along with fabricating and welding3-5 years cab and chassis experience
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and repair the following: diesel and gas engines, suspensions, hydraulic systems, electrical systems and air brakes.
  • Prior construction industry equipment experience preferred
  • Excellent verbal communications skills
  • Team player and Reliable
  • Able to work in dynamic fast paced environment
  • Must have own tools
  • CDL class A
